Three suspects, Evan Ivan Murray, Winston Speelman and Xolani Mdani appeared in the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court on May 20 facing charges of business robbery and possession of suspected stolen property after allegedly stealing copper cables from Bokomland Wind Farm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the police spokesperson, Captain Marius McCarthy, it is alleged that on May 18, four suspects attacked and overpowered a security guard at Bokomland Wind Farm in Humansdorp.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“The suspects allegedly tied a security guard up and stole copper cables from a container before they fled the scene,” said McCarthy.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that at about 00:30 on May 19, members of Humansdorp Crime Prevention Unit received information from a private security company about a white Isuzu bakkie that was involved in copper theft at the wind farm and that it was travelling on the N2 in the direction of Humansdorp.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
McCarthy said that members responded immediately and patrolled the N2 in search of the vehicle. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Members spotted the white Isuzu LDV at the Humansdorp turn-off on the R330 and promptly intercepted the vehicle,” said McCarthy.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said that as soon as the vehicle came to a stop, six men jumped out of the vehicle and ran into the nearby bushes. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Police managed to arrest three male suspects,” said McCarthy.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He further said that upon searching the white Isuzu, members found copper valued at about R310 000.\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n
McCarthy said that the case against Murray, Speelman, and Mdani has been postponed to today, May 23 for a formal bail application.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
