THE St Francis Property Owners Association (SFPO) is set to install 100 high-tech closed circuit television (CCTV) surveillance cameras and a 24\/7 monitoring service to fight crime in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to St Francis Property Owners Chairman, Wayne Furphy, crime in the area has risen to unprecedented levels in recent months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe SFPO was approached by the St Francis Community Police Forum for assistance in combatting crime through the installation of a CCTV monitoring system,\u201d says Furphy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt will provide the local police station and private security companies with the means of timeously responding to incidences, and possibly preventing crimes from taking place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIn addition, CCTV recordings can be used as admissible evidence to secure convictions of criminals.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project, which will see the installation of cameras at key entry and exit points to St Francis Bay, as well as along arterial roads and pedestrian routes, key bridges and intersections, is due for completion by the end of this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe cameras will be linked to a state-of-the-art 24\/7 monitoring centre run by Atlas Security,\u201d says Furphy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe cameras will furthermore be linked to the local police station and private security companies in St Francis Bay.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The project will be funded throught the SRA Levy, which came into effect for the village and canal property owners on July 1 this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The equipment will be rented over a period of 10 years from Intersec, allowing the SFPO to install the system with immediate effect. The system will be maintained and upgraded regularly by the appointed service provider.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
