THIRTY wheelchairs are set to be handed over to Kouga residents next week following the first Wheelchair Wednesday campaign in the region in August.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Twenty-two participants, including Mayor Horatio Hendricks and his Mayoral Committee, took part in the programme, which challenged able-bodies persons to complete everyday tasks while strapped to a wheelchair.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The campaign was initiated by the Association for the Physically Disabled (APD) Nelson Mandela Bay six years ago and rolled out to Kouga by the local branch this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt was an eye-opening experience which none of us will forget and will set the tone for improvements to our region when it comes to wheelchair-accessibility,\u201d said Hendricks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
APD Kouga spokesperson Jakkie Pieters said the aim of Wheelchair Wednesday was to raise funds for the association\u2019s programmes while raising awareness of what life in wheelchair is like.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
