{"id":56708,"date":"2018-12-06T06:01:06","date_gmt":"2018-12-06T04:01:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/kougaexpress\/the-winner-is-20181205-2\/"},"modified":"2025-03-21T08:21:08","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T06:21:08","slug":"the-winner-is-20181205-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/kougaexpress\/the-winner-is-20181205-2\/","title":{"rendered":"The winner is . . ."},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>AFTER months of searching for the Kouga Express Miss Matric Dance for 2018, the winner was finally chosen \u2013 not an easy task.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She is the beautiful and stylish Shevonne Nelson from Humansdorp Senior Secondary School, who bowled the judges over with her stunning dress and overall look for her matric dance held at the school hall on June 20 this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was crowned the fourth Miss Matric Dance Winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cA saw a picture of a dress in a magazine and I immediately knew that it would be perfect for me,\u201d says Shevonne. \u201cWith the inspiration from my mother and designer \u2013 Hester Pretorius from Notch Boutique in Jeffreys Bay \u2013 we changed the detail to fit my style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<span>The only thing that bothered me at that stage was the right colour I had to choose \u2013 a unique colour that would compliment my skin tone perfectly. <\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy dad decided on the colour and I\u2019ve loved it ever since.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her hair was done by Boutique Salon; her make-up was done by her cousin Bronwyn Kamineth and her photographer was Heshaam Shaaban from InFocus Photography.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to Shevonne, most of her planning for the matric dance started during the December holiday of 2017.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said her matric dance exceeded her expectations \u201cabove and beyond\u201d. \u201cI was blown away by all the decor. delicious food, atmosphere and beautiful programme. This was definitely one magical night I will never forget.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was accompanied to her dance by her twin sister, Shevirnne.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSince grade 11, my twin sister and I decided that we are going to be partners for the matric dance \u2013 come what may.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She said she never expected to come this far in the competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI did not think for one moment that I would have made is thus far, says this avid <i>Kouga Express<\/i> reader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy designer motivated me to enter, and I decided to go ahead and do something out of my comfort zone.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>N<span>ot only a pretty face \u2013 and dress \u2013 Shevonne was the deputy headgirl for 2018 at Humansdorp Senior Secondary School and she was one of the top 10 academic candidates in grade 12.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She was also a peer promotor, cheerleader, first aid representative and a member of the RCL.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She will study towards a nursing degree at Stellenbosch University next year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shevonne\u2019s free time is dedicated towards mastering the euphonium \u2013 a brass instrument \u2013 which she plays as a member of the band and her church. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Her advice for next year\u2019s grade 12 lear-ners attending a matric dance? \u201cPlan ahead \u2013 enjoy and make every moment count.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The first runner-up is Bianca Bredekamp from Global Leadership Academy, and the second runner-up is Shevirnne Nelson from Humansdorp Senior
