IT took grace, guts and gusto for a young guy to claw his way to the top. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is precisely what barista Amedeo Bi-sogno (better known as Amo) did with his unquenchable passion for art and coffee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He simply produces the best. This is evident in Amo taking the top honours in the Eastern Cape Coffee Competitions 2018 \u2013 Latte Art and a third spot in the Barista section. His creativity as an artist and his love for JBay was evident in the latte art \u2013 \u201cThe Kabeljous\u201d depicted an intricate flamingo in the beach setting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He says that competing was not to prove anything, but to show his gratitude to everyone who added value and supported him in this process of establishing this coffee spot. He has learnt to appreciate special moments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amo\u2019s coffee reflects him: honest, unassuming, and yet complex with depth. He humbly charms his way into your heart, wins you over with the best brew and his creative innovations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But coffee is also serious business: a science and an art. It demands dedication and focus. Amo says: \u201cWe don\u2019t jeopardise its integrity. We rather showcase nature\u2019s gift, while paying attention to being consistent.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe want people to have an authentic experience. Fifth Wave is all about the people. And coffee connects people in a real way.\u201d Here strangers spontaneously turn into friends, sharing the need for an excellent coffee fix and some human interaction. People lose themselves in a virtual world, which is why at Fifth Wave they can just be. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Amo says, \u201cThere had been four waves in the history of how coffee evolved in society \u2013 traditional coffee culture, branded coffee, artisan coffee, and a fourth ill-defined wave focusing on sustainability. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe world is ready for a new wave which is why I named my shop Fifth Wave. Coffee allows people to connect and interact.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fifth Wave Coffee is intense about environmental impact. The focus is on the ethics, processes and origin, and to inform people of why it matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThough we don\u2019t compromise on quality, we do not judge how you prefer to drink your coffee,\u201d Amo quips. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\n When the Eastern Cape Coffee Competitions 2018 (Latte Art, Barista and Cup Tasters) took place in Port Elizabeth last month, JBay baristas showcased their excellence by raking in positions in ALL categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Amedeo Bisongno, owner of Fifth Wave Coffee, took top honours in the Latte Art and a third place in the Barista competition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Jayne Davies\u2019 InFood Coffee Society baristas took second positions: Hilary Gwaze in the Barista section, and Nigel Kamhanda in the Latte Art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Maxine Thiart of Routed Roasters took second spot in the Cup
