THOUSANDS of locals and holiday-makers from all over the world flocked to the main beach front of Jeffreys Bay on Saturday to ce-lebrate the official opening of the season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe programme ran smoothly, with hardly a glitch, thanks to all the hard work that went in behind the scenes,\u201d Kouga Mayor Horatio Hendricks said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cI would like to thank everyone who contributed and everyone who joined us to open the festive season in style. It was wonderful to see people from all walks of life come together to play and have fun.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The weather was close to perfect and beach sports like touch rugby started the day off, with many others enjoying the water and waves of Dolphin Beach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the day progressed, children had great fun on the jumping castles and enjoyed the free gifts handed out by Kouga Municipality. They also had the opportunity to inspect the new fire engines that were parked on the beachfront while they were at the municipality\u2019s \u201csave water\u201d colouring-in corner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local Law Enforcement and Traffic officials ensured everyone was safe and could simply enjoy themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With so much talent on display, the judges had no easy task deciding on the winner of the first Mayoral Talent Search, which took place at the Amphitheatre. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Rapper\/singer Gabriel \u201cRhythmix\u201d Plaat-jies from Hankey emerged victorious while the Last Royals, a dance crew from Humansdorp, placed second. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the Talent Search, the Moravian Brass Band entertained the crowds with soulful music that got the Christmas spirit going in Jeffreys Bay. They were joined by Father Christmas, who was a huge hit and made many little hearts happy as he handed out gifts and posed for photos<\/span>. The magic show vowed the crowds at main beach and was one of the big draw cards du-ring the day. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The evening culminated with a fireworks display \u2013 attracting locals and visitors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Local band Simplicity closed off the programme, with music that had people dancing together to usher in the festive season.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" THOUSANDS
