OVER the past seven months a total of 1 849 sewer blockages were attended to by Kouga Municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis works out to an average of nine per day and is a cause for concern,\u201d Executive Mayor Horatio Hendricks said in his State of the Municipality Address.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhile an increase in blockages was to be expected when water restrictions were introduced, the root cause needs to be investigated and addressed.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said it was also of concern that when blockages were cleared in certain areas, all manner of foreign objects such as rolled-up blankets, wooden poles and big rocks were found within the system. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
