WITH little to no rain, the water crisis across South Africa, including Kouga, continues to worsen \u2013 with the Kouga Dam nearly empty.<\/p>\n
South African Water Warriors \u2013 a non-profit organisation established on February 26, 2018 by Deon Smit \u2013 is doing all it can by donating thousands of litres of water and food to those affected by the drought. <\/p>\n
But they cannot do it without the continued support of residents and businesses. <\/p>\n
According to Patensie Water Warrior, Gerda Swart, the drought over the past five years is leaving devastation on so many levels for the farmers.<\/p>\n
\u201cTheir livestock are dying every day; the farmers are in despair and financially strained,\u201d she says. \u201cThey are no longer able to produce anything in their lands; they are not able to feed their animals and great losses also leave farmers to do away with workers. Some only have one worker family left, some none.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Swart, the organisation is in dire need of water, fodder, non-perishable food, toiletries, fresh vegetables and pet food. <\/p>\n
Donations will be distributed, free of charge, to farmers in need across South Africa in aid of farmers\u2019 animals, their families and their worker families.<\/p>\n
\u201cPlease support our cause to prevent our farmers from giving up, or more, to taking their own lives,\u201d says Swart. \u201cWe can support them; we can carry them through this time, but only with your help.\u201d<\/p>\n
