AFRICA\u2019S first eco-friendly road, incorporating waste plastic, could be in place by next week.<\/p>\n
Kouga Infrastructure and Engineering Portfolio Councillor Freddy Campher said the contractor expected to start with the new top layer of Woltemade Street in Jeffreys Bay on Friday.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt will take at least two days to complete the top layer,\u201d he said. \u201cThis means that, if all goes according to plan, the top layer will be in place by the end of the weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said it was the top layer that would include the plastic pellets, a revolutionary new approach to road building.<\/p>\n
Campher apologised to all those who had been affected by the closure of Woltemade Street.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe contractor made every effort to keep businesses in the affected area informed of what was happening at the road. We apologise sincerely should anyone have been overlooked.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said that once the tarring had been completed, the road would be opened for traffic again.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe contractor will still be putting some finishing touches to the street, including the road markings. We don\u2019t, however, anticipate that the road will have to remain closed while this is being done.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said Koraal Street was also set to receive a new top layer incorporating waste plastic. The construction dates will be communicated in due course.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
