IS it a bird? Is it Aquaman? Is it a shark or even a pirate ship?<\/p>\n
No! It is a raft.<\/p>\n
And it is all made from \u2019trash\u2019 for a good cause.<\/p>\n
Building a raft from recycled material only, strong enough to withstand the onslaught of \u201csharks and a variety of floating obstacles,\u201d will put the skills of Jeffreys Bay Technical College engineering learners to the ultimate test at the first Everything Recycled that Floats event \u2013 all in a bid to raise funds for the college.<\/p>\n
According to college co-owner and administrator, Magda Pietersen, students will be split into 20 teams and will be required to build rafts using recycled material.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey will then have to paddle their rafts around Wacky Waterpark and stay afloat despite the many obstacles placed along the course,\u201d she says.<\/p>\n
Bonus points will be given to the best represented team and raft.<\/p>\n
Pietersen says, \u201cThe aim of the event is to have fun, with the learners using their acquired skills to overcome a watery obstacle course. It will double-up as a fundraiser.<\/p>\n
\u201cFunds raised will be used to buy furniture for the college.\u201d<\/p>\n
Residents are welcome to join and cheer for their favourite team.<\/p>\n
Braai-packs, including a chop, sausage, sosatie and bread roll, will be on sale. The event organisers will do the braaiing.<\/p>\n
