THE hunt is on for a new Chief Financial Officer to lead Kouga Municipality\u2019s Finance department.<\/p>\n
This follows the departure of CFO Selwyn Thys earlier this month.<\/p>\n
Thys has taken up the position of CFO at Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. He spent four years at Kouga.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a keenly-felt loss for Kouga, but a wonderful opportunity for Mr Thys,\u201d said Kouga Executive Mayor Horatio Hendricks.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe was an asset and great leader since the first day he started at Kouga in January 2015.\u201d<\/p>\n
During his time as CFO, Thys helped to ensured that Kouga Municipality became financially sustainable and put in control measures to prevent fraud and corruption from taking place.<\/p>\n
He further ensured that the municipality obtained a clean audit for its financials for the 2018\/19 year.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy focus as CFO was always on the organisation and not the sideshows. The sideshows are there to distract you from what you need to achieve,\u201d Thys said at his farewell.<\/p>\n
His advice to his successor is: \u201cEmbrace your team, don\u2019t knock them down.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said he would miss everyone he got to know during his time at Kouga.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was really rewarding to work with you.\u201d<\/p>\n
