The St Francis Bay Rotary Club \u2013 in conjunction with the St Francis United Church, the local Disaster Volunteer Group (DVG) and the Samaritans \u2013 launched a food donation drive in a bid to assist less fortunate residents in the area. <\/p>\n
Each food parcel, at a cost of R200, will contain essential products like maize meal, sugar, eggs, rice, soup packs, flour, milk and oil.<\/p>\n
These food parcels will be sourced and assembled through the Village SuperSpar and distributed by those who are officially approved to do so by the relevant authorities assisted by the Disaster Volunteer Group, in the areas where they are most needed.<\/p>\n
According to the DVG, over R600 000 has been donated to date \u2013 enabling the organisation to first and second deliveries of 500 food parcels.<\/p>\n
It is their goal to raise a minimum of R1.5 million \u2013 at least 7 500 food parcels. The first deliveries took place on Wednesday and will continue on Friday. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a long term project and the future is unknown. The good helpers are all volunteers, expecting nothing in return. Your support is paramount and together with the St Francis United Church and Rotary St Francis, we thank you. We also acknowledge and thank our local Superspar Village Square who are working hand in hand with us to accomplish this calling,\u201d said the DVG.<\/p>\n
