THE Kouga Traffic Department in Humansdorp has reopened for driving and motor vehicle licence renewals and registrations.<\/p>\n
No new learner\u2019s or driving licence test applications will, however, be accommodated at this stage.<\/p>\n
Kouga Community Services Portfolio Councillor, Daniel Benson, says that the focus during June would be on clearing the backlog that was created by the nationwide lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n
\u201cMotorists will be able to renew their vehicle licences at the Humansdorp office from Monday, June 1.<\/p>\n
\u201cThose who had appointments for driving licence renewals from March 26 to May 31 are asked to contact the Kouga Traffic Department for a new booking.\u201d<\/p>\n
He says that those who were scheduled to be tested for new learner\u2019s and driving licence tests during this period, would be contacted to reschedule their appointments.<\/p>\n
\u201cDue to the backlog, no new applications for driving licence or learner\u2019s licence test applications will be accommodated until the Department of Transport gives the go-ahead.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is a directive from said department and is applicable to the whole province,\u201d Benson says.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe priority will be on clearing the backlog created by the lockdown and assisting those whose licences and permits expired during this period.\u201d<\/p>\n
In terms of the latest Covid-19 regulations, all driving licences, temporary driving licences, learner\u2019s licences, professional driving licences, temporary permits, vehicle registrations, motor vehicle licence discs and roadworthy certificates that would have expired from March 26, 2020 to May 31, 2020 are deemed valid for 90 days after June 1, 2020.<\/p>\n
All motor trade number licences that would have expired during the same period, are deemed valid for six months after June 1, 2020.<\/p>\n
Benson says that all prescribed hygiene measures, disinfection controls and health protocols would be in place at the registration offices and testing centres.<\/p>\n
\u201cSocial distancing will be enforced at all times and hand sanitisers will be available.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is, furthermore, mandatory for all visitors and staff to wear masks. These could be cloth or homemade masks, covering the mouth and nose.\u201d <\/p>\n
