A FURTHER 33 households from Jeffreys Bay have moved into brand new RDP houses. <\/p>\n
The houses, which are part of the Pells-rus 220 RDP housing development, were officially handed over to the beneficiaries by Eastern Cape MEC for Human Settlements, Nonkqubela Pieters, and Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks, on Saturday. <\/p>\n
Hendricks said the first 107 houses of the 220 units planned for Pellsrus had been completed and handed over to their new owners in March. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe are very grateful that the contractor could complete a further 33 houses despite the restrictions brought about by the nationwide Covid-19 lockdown,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
\u201cNot only will the houses assist in restoring the dignity of beneficiaries, but they will also make it easier for these families to stay safe from the coronavirus as they now have a proper roof over their heads.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Pellsrus 220 project is the first housing development under construction in Jeffreys Bay in more than ten years. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe municipality is proud of the role we could play in getting the project back on track. <\/p>\n
\u201cNot only did the municipality make the land available for the houses, but we also ensured that the bulk infrastructure, including sewer, water and electricity, was in place.\u201d<\/p>\n
He thanked the Human Settlement Department for also assisting with the installation of a pump station so as to ensure all houses could be connected to the sewer system timeously.<\/p>\n
The construction of the houses was awarded to Ikhaya Construction. <\/p>\n
Contractor, Malcolm Langson, from Ikhaya Construction, said work on the remaining houses was set to resume following the easing of lockdown restrictions. <\/p>\n
The Mayor applauded everyone who played a role in making the project a reality.<\/p>\n
