THE long-awaited 2020 Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme, an even more attractive version of the popular 4×4 Double Cab and aimed at owners with an adventure extreme lifestyle, is now available in limited numbers.<\/p>\n
The Triton Xtreme, only available as the 4×4 Double Cab Auto, offers much more than an attractive, bold and adventurous look, including a higher attitude, taking its already impressive off-road abilities to new heights.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor South African people a bakkie such as the complete Triton range is more than simply a practical vehicle \u2013 for many it is a status symbol that makes them stand out,\u201d said Nic Campbell, general manager of Mitsubishi Motors South Africa (MMSA). \u201cWe are launching the Triton Xtreme for owners with an extreme lifestyle at only a small premium over the existing 4×4 Auto flagship.\u201d<\/p>\n
The new Triton Xtreme offers a host of upgrades, based on customer feedback, and valued at around R100 000, but at only R40 000 more than the current model.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new derivative is extreme on all levels, especially looks that show its owner follows an extreme lifestyle and is not shy about it. <\/p>\n
\u201cFrom the outside, the new Xtreme will be turning heads at a distance thanks to a host of visual improvements all over,\u201d said Campbell. \u201cMost people who own a bakkie, use it for work as well as play. <\/p>\n
\u201cMany of them also have a desire for a personal extreme-type vehicle such as the Triton Xtreme to live out their adventurous lifestyle and unique taste.\u201d<\/p>\n
With the Mitsubishi Triton part of the success of the company\u2019s landmark year in 2019 with rising sales in a shrinking domestic market, the 2020 Triton Xtreme is the fourth new model launch for the company this year.<\/p>\n
This adventure-styled double cab bakkie is powered by the powerful, refined and super-responsive 2.4-litre MIVEC turbo diesel engine coupled to Mitsubishi\u2019s unique Super Select II 4WD system, with electronic off-road assistance.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe new Xtreme has all the features of the 4×4 Double Cab Auto, including all the safety features that form the backbone of Mitsubishi products, and get a long list of additional visual features unique to the Xtreme,\u201d said Campbell.<\/p>\n
Refined beyond tough<\/p>\n
Although most of the upgrades are on the outside, the Triton Xtreme also boasts some additional equipment under the skin.<\/span><\/p>\n Combined with the electronic off-road assistance coupled to the Super Select II 4WD system with the option of full-time all-wheel drive with high and low range and a centre diff-lock option, as well as selectable two-wheel drive, the Triton Xtreme makes child\u2019s play of the most extreme adventure driving conditions.<\/p>\n Inside<\/p>\n On the inside, there is a Sport automatic shift knob and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, with extra features to mirror your smart device. <\/p>\n With this feature you can get directions, make and receive calls, send and receive messages, and listen to your favourite downloaded music. <\/p>\n Most importantly, you can do all of this without fumbling around with your full attention staying focused on the road.<\/p>\n Out of view, but equally practical, the Triton Xtreme also boasts new Ezydown hydraulic dampers, allowing the tailgate to open at a whisper.<\/p>\n The load box now has professionally applied rubberising, protecting the vehicle and the contents in the back, especially adventure owners\u2019 expensive and sometimes delicate extreme sports gear.<\/p>\n A tonneau cover makes sure these are kept hidden from prying eyes and protected against rain and dust, while an additional tailgate locking feature helps to safeguard the contents.<\/p>\n Outside<\/p>\n The new Triton Xtreme certainly is extreme on the outside with a host of additional features making it immediately recognisable \u2013 even from a distance.<\/p>\n The Xtreme gets a distinctive new black bumper and grill combo, as well as a bonnet protector and headlight covers, removing the risk of stone chips on and off the road.<\/p>\n Other exterior additions giving the 2020 Triton Xtreme its extreme looks, include Xtreme branding, 4×4 stickers, door handle cups to protect the paint against nail scratches, roof rack supports for adventure lifestyle gear such as surfboards, window visors and taillight covers.<\/p>\n A bold-looking Kekosport style bar in black is mounted behind the cab and offers outstanding looks as well as additional protection.<\/p>\n \u201cApart from these changes, probably the most visible addition is the fender flare kit fitted with visible bolts, giving the Triton Xtreme a wider look,\u201d said Campbell. <\/p>\n \u201cThe new vehicle also gets A-line Hazard mag wheels in black, shod with Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain tyres.\u201d<\/p>\n The Xtreme model also gets a Bosal tow bar.<\/p>\n Safety<\/p>\n As nothing is more important to Mitsubishi Motors than occupant safety, the Triton retains its full and comprehensive active and passive safety kit.<\/p>\n This includes electronic off-road assistance, which enhances the Super Select II 4WD system by means of hill descent control for additional safety off the road.<\/p>\n The Triton Xtreme has an extreme off-road performance of a 28\u00b0<\/span> approach angle, 23\u00b0<\/span> departure angle and 25\u00b0<\/span> breakover angle, to conquer extreme off-road driving conditions. Automatic stability and traction control are important safety features in rain and on gravel roads, while working with S-AWC to provide maximum safety and driver control, while hill start assist prevents the vehicle from rolling back on an incline.<\/p>\n The Xtreme also boasts a seven-airbag system for increased safety for every seat, while Mitsubishi\u2019s advanced RISE (Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution) body construction utilises crumple zones that route and absorb energy during high-impact collisions.<\/p>\n Side impact protection bars in the doors add to the vehicle\u2019s impressive passive safety features, which include ISOFIX child seat anchors.<\/p>\n Warranty and service<\/p>\n The Mitsubishi Triton Xtreme is covered by the original Mitsubishi Motors\u2019 Manufacturer\u2019s Warranty of three years or 100 000km, a five-year\/90 000km service plan and a five-year\/unlimited mileage roadside assistance.
