WOMEN from different walks of life will be sharing their experience of the COVID-19 lockdown with the broader Kouga community this August.<\/p>\n
\u201cAugust is Women\u2019s Month, which makes it the ideal time to showcase the role women have been playing to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, both on the frontline and behind the scenes,\u201d said Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt is an opportunity to remind women just how strong they truly are and to encourage them to believe in themselves and to support one another.\u201d<\/p>\n
The programme will feature seven women, who will be interviewed by Oasis FM Marketing Manager, Bernadette Swartz, in August, every Tuesday, at 10:00. <\/p>\n
The interviews will be broadcast on Oasis FM 89.8 and will also be streamed live on the Facebook pages of Kouga Municipality and Oasis FM.<\/p>\n
Kouga\u2019s First Lady, Amor Hendricks, opened the programme this week and shared how important family support was for those working on the frontline.<\/p>\n
Next week, on August 11, the spotlight will turn to Cathy Brown from the Department of Health, who has played a key role in tracing local COVID-19 cases so as to maximise their chances of survival and minimise the risk to those around them.<\/p>\n
She will be joined by Nolusindiso Soul, one of the first COVID-19 survivors in Kouga, and Adi Schoeman, a medical doctor from Patensie, who contracted the coronavirus while helping to prepare the Gamtoos communities for the pandemic.<\/p>\n
Businesswomen, Esty Nhlangulela and Martha Nodaka, will take the spotlight on August 18 to share how the lockdown had impacted on their enterprises.<\/p>\n
This will be followed by an interview on August 25 with acting Jeffreys Bay Comprehensive principal, Nomxolisi Makayi, and girl learners, about the challenges schools have faced during this time.<\/p>\n
The programme will conclude with a prayer session on August 31.<\/p>\n
Mayor Hendricks said two community outreaches would also take place. These will done in partnership with the Lighthouse, an organisation that cares for single mothers, and the Sisterhood, an initiative that focuses on supporting and inspiring young women.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
