THIRTY-two single moms and their children will have food and toiletries for the next month thanks to the Special Programmes Unit in the Office of Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks.<\/p>\n
The unit joined hands with the Ladies\u2019 Lighthouse at Jeffreys Bay last week to reach out to single mothers as part of Kouga Municipality\u2019s Women\u2019s Month programme.<\/p>\n
Hendricks commended co-founder, Carla Smit, and the volunteers who have been driving the Ladies\u2019 Lighthouse, a non-profit organisation that supports single mothers struggling to survive.<\/p>\n
\u201cMany of these mothers and children have escaped from abusive homes and face severe financial challenges,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Ladies\u2019 Lighthouse has been amazing in their support of them, assisting them with food, toiletries, clothing and housing.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe organisation depends on volunteers and donations to do this important work. It is a true labour of love and I am grateful that we could make this contribution.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Ladies\u2019 Lighthouse recently opened a charity shop next to Midas in Prospect Street, Jeffreys Bay, to help raise funds for their work.<\/p>\n
The shop is open from 09:00 to 16:00 on Mondays to Fridays and from 09:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays.<\/p>\n
Donations of food for the women and their children or items to sell in the shop are also welcome.<\/p>\n
