{"id":51862,"date":"2020-10-15T06:00:50","date_gmt":"2020-10-15T04:00:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/kougaexpress\/electricity-for-griffiths-mxenge-after-ten-year-wait-20201014-2\/"},"modified":"2020-10-15T06:00:50","modified_gmt":"2020-10-15T04:00:50","slug":"electricity-for-griffiths-mxenge-after-ten-year-wait-20201014-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/kougaexpress\/electricity-for-griffiths-mxenge-after-ten-year-wait-20201014-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Electricity for Griffiths Mxenge after ten-year wait"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE long wait for electricity has finally come to an end for 28 families from Ocean View in Jeffreys Bay.<\/p>\n<p>The households, situated along Griffiths Mxenge Street, were powered up by the Kouga Municipality this week.<\/p>\n<p>Kouga Speaker, Hattingh Bornman, said many of the families had been waiting to be connected to the electricity network for more than 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey were promised electricity more than a decade ago, but this promise never came to fruition under the then ANC-led Council,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder the leadership of the DA, this wrong has now been righted. We are excited that we have been able to improve the living conditions of these families.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks, said the switch-on had brought the number of households in Jeffreys Bay that have received electricity over the past two weeks to 211.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA total of 193 sites were also electrified at No-R10 last week.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the electrification projects formed part of the municipality\u2019s strategy to combat illegal electricity. \u201cIllegal electricity not only poses a danger to people, animals and property, but it also
