ST. FRANCISBAAI kan na dese as \u2019n gewilde gholfbestemming beskou word met die St. Francis Links wat nou as een van die beste bane in die land aangewys is.<\/p>\n

Die Links is vyfde op Golf Digest<\/span>-tydskrif se jongste lys van die 100 beste gholfbane in die land. Dis nie al nie, die St. Francisbaai gholfbaan, skaars \u2019n katspoeg van die Links, is nommer 85ste op die lys van gholfbane lands-wyd.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn die 15 jaar wat die St. Francisbaai Links bestaan, het ons elke keer \u2019n paar plekke op die lys gestyg. Dis vir ons \u2019n geweldige eer om nou op nommer vyf te wees en as die beste gholfbaan in die Oos-Kaap beskou te word,\u201d s\u00ea Christo Krugel, \u2019n lid van die Links se bestuur.<\/p>\n

\u201cOns het aanvanklik nie eens geweet toe die bestuurder van Golf Digest<\/span> (Stuart McLean) ons klub besoek het nie, dit was heel onverwags en ons het eers later in die dag besef wie dit was! Maar ons is verheug dat hy gehou het van wat hy sien.\u201d<\/p>\n

Volgens Krugel is dit vir hom lekker dat die St. Francisbaai gholfbaan ook erkenning gekry het.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs ons groepe gholfspelers ont-haal, hou ons daarvan om hulle die volgende dag soontoe te stuur. Dis wat werk vir die gemeenskap hier. Ons help mekaar,\u201d s\u00ea hy.<\/p>\n

Die St. Francis Links is eintlik \u2019n eksklusiewe klub. Jy moet \u2019n huiseienaar wees of eiendom besit op die landgoed waar die gholfbaan is om \u2019n lid van die klub te kan wees, maar nie-lede mag wel op die baan speel.<\/p>\n

Volgens Krugel is die klub so gelukkig om 13 boorgate te h\u00ea. Dit help baie om die baan in die fantastiese toestand te hou wat dit is, hoewel Krugel beklemtoon dat daar gedurende die huidige droogtetye spaarsamig met die water gewerk word. Krugel meen al 18 putjies op die baan is spesiaal en wil nie een uitsonder as meer gewild by gholfspelers nie.<\/p>\n

\u201cEk kan wel noem dat dit lekker is as jy so op die baan loop en jy sien sommer \u2019n njala of \u2019n bosbok of \u2019n skilpad vir jou loer,\u201d vertel hy. \u201cOns het natuurlik ook al \u2019n slang of twee op die gholfbaan gekry, maar di\u00e9 word dan net gevang en weer in die natuur vrygelaat.\u201d <\/p>\n

Die Sonskyn Toer het al verskeie keer van sy Vodacom Origins of Golf-toernooie by die Links aangebied.<\/p>\n

Die Links se klubhuis was ook al die gasheer vir konserte deur be-kende musieksterre soos Watershed en Chris Chameleon. Krugel vertel laggend dat \u2019n klompie vroue omtrent \u201cga-ga\u201d geraak het die aand toe Watershed daar opgetree het.<\/p>\n

\u201cOns bied ook troues en ander ont-hale in die klubhuis aan. Ons het ook \u2019n kinderkamer waar die kleintjies besig gehou word en dan is daar ook na-tuurlik die Jack Nicklaus-kroeg wat baie gewild is,\u201d s\u00ea Krugel.<\/p>\n

Hy huiwer om die Jack Nicklaus-kroeg \u2019n kroeg te noem en verduidelik dis meer van \u2019n eetplek\/bistro\/sportkykplek.<\/p>\n

\u201cVir Jack het ons baie respek. Hy het ons baan ontwerp en daar is \u2019n klompie fantastiese foto\u2019s van hom in die kroeg,\u201d s\u00ea Krugel.<\/p>\n

Een keer \u2019n week maak die klub sy hekke vir die publiek oop wanneer hulle dan aan \u2019n \u201cPark-run\u201d van 5km kan deelneem.<\/p>\n

\u201cDis veral in Desember baie gewild en ons het dan al soveel as \u2019n duisend hardlopers hier gehad,\u201d vertel hy.<\/p>\n

Binne in die landgoed is daar ook vier staproetes waarop inwoners kan gaan kopskoonmaak.<\/p>\n

Volgens Krugel is die duine in die Links ook \u201clewendig\u201d en is en daar verskeie vo\u00eblspesies en interessante inheemse plantegroei te sien.<\/p>\n

Die gewilde Chokka-staproete neem stappers ook \u2019n entjie deur die gholfbaan, net genoeg om jou lus te maak om daarna jou gholfswaaie so bietjie by die Links te gaan oefen!<\/p>\n
