FOLLOWING the success of their free film and digital media orientation programme in Humansdorp earlier this month, film and media training provider, iKasi Creative Media, in collaboration with the Kouga Wind Farm, are hopeful that their next programme in the area from May 3 to 7 will yield similar success. <\/p>\n

As previously reported by the Kouga Express<\/span>, non\u2013profit organisation, iKasi Creative Media based in George, was established in 2017 by Lika Berning, Lamise Inglis and Khanya Sosibo, each with many years of experience in the film, TV, and entertainment industry.<\/p>\n

To further expand their free film and digital media training, the organisation held a five-day orientation programme in Humansdorp, earlier this month.<\/p>\n

According to Berning, they received a great response from the 25 learners who attended the course, and the organisation was therefore pleased with the outcome of the orientation training.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were overwhelmed by the response from the applicants. The youth in Humansdorp are clearly ready to learn and start their careers in media,\u201d said Berning.<\/p>\n

Will Smith, from Humansdorp, who attended the training, said he had a great experience as he met many new people, and he was able to learn a lot during the workshop.<\/p>\n

\u201cI learnt how to edit a video perfectly, how to take different shots, how to shoot a video with my phone and make it look as good as if it were taken with a digital camera,\u201d said Smith.<\/p>\n

He said he would recommend the film and media course to those who were interested, as there were many opportunities within the film industry.<\/p>\n

Bianca Lekagane, from Hankey, said her experience during the five-day course was both fun and educational.<\/p>\n

\u201cI learnt a lot about how the film and media industry works, what careers there are and how to take great footage with just my phone. It was a valuable experience,\u201d said Lekagane.<\/p>\n

Vicki Fourie, from Jeffreys Bay, said the course gave her a great overview of how the film industry worked, the areas she could focus on and how to work with the equipment she had.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was an incredible honour to attend the orientation. I met so many amazing people and it gives me hope for the future,\u201d said Fourie.<\/p>\n

She said she would recommend the film course to anyone who was interested as it provided a crash course into what one would learn at university.<\/p>\n

Berning said the second five-day film and media orientation programme was open to at least 50 young people in Humansdorp, an increase from the 25 learners at the previous workshop and would take place at Rehoboth Training Solutions from May 3 to 7.<\/p>\n

Those who are interested in participating in the orientation programme must be aged between 18 and 35, have a matric certificate and should not be working full time.<\/p>\n

Berning said, after the training, at least 25 learners would be selected to participate in their accredited three-month skills programme, which would give learners access to industry professionals who offer training in the various filmmaking departments.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a wealth of creative talent in Humansdorp and, if learners are able to travel from surrounding towns, they are welcome to join the programme as well,\u201d said Berning.<\/p>\n

She further said it was great working with the Kouga Wind Farm and her organisation appreciated their commitment to rural youth in the Kouga region.<\/p>\n
