FOR the past year, twin sisters, Nicole and Nicolene Frysenburg (15), from Humansdorp, have been working hard to interview people in their community to share their unique experiences with many others, in the hope that it will make some difference in their lives.<\/p>\n
The sisters, who are both Grade 9 learners at Humansdorp Secondary School and share a favourite teacher, Ursela Isaacs, were always interested in interviewing and presenting, but it was only when they met local photographer and filmmaker, Jonathan Phyllis, that they experienced what it was like to be in front of a television camera.<\/p>\n
As previously reported by the Kouga Express, with his extensive experience as a photographer and filmmaker, Phyllis created an online television channel, Kwai Kat TV, on social media in 2019, to uplift his community which was plagued with gangsterism and gang-related killings.<\/p>\n
Phyllis met the sisters at a local store and immediately knew they would be a perfect fit for his online television channel.<\/p>\n
After having a conversation with the sisters, he soon realised that they too were interested in acting and presenting.<\/p>\n
Phyllis then paid a visit to their mother, Siena Frysenburg, who was excited at the prospect of her daughters gaining experience in the entertainment industry.<\/p>\n
Last year, Nicole and Nicolene first appeared in Phyllis\u2019 short film, Die Ander Ek, as actors, and soon they began delving into their passion, which was interviewing and presenting various shows on the online channel.<\/p>\n
Since then, the sisters have interviewed many inspirational people in the community about various topics.<\/p>\n
\u201cFor me it is very exciting to meet new people and listen to their stories about the difficulties they have faced in life,\u201d said Nicole.<\/p>\n
\u201cI believe that by interviewing and sharing people\u2019s stories with others I am making a difference in their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n
Nicolene said presenting and interviewing others came naturally to them since they continuously practised the craft.<\/p>\n
\u201cPresenting has taught me so much about respecting others and being transparent,\u201d said Nicolene. <\/p>\n
She further said that working at Kwai Kat TV had opened many doors for them and they had become very popular in their community, since many people recognised them from various short films and interviews aired on the online TV station. <\/p>\n
Despite both sisters being interested in interviewing and presenting, Nicolene hopes to study towards becoming a traffic officer, while Nicole hopes to study towards becoming a newsreader.<\/p>\n
\u201cI like presenting very much. Working, travelling and meeting new people is very exciting for me,\u201d said Nicole.<\/p>\n
She further said young people who were interested in gaining experience as a presenter should contact Phyllis.<\/p>\n
To further develop their skills and knowledge at Kwai Kat TV, Nicole said she hoped people would consider donating equipment, such as lights and microphones, which they could use to better the quality of their interviews.<\/p>\n
