Moet nou nie teleurgesteld wees nie, die uitstappie wat ongeveer twee ure duur is interessant genoeg om jou vir \u2019n wyle van \u2019n padda-prins of \u2013prinses te laat vergeet. <\/p>\n

Sarah-Jane Swanepoel is die eienaar van die Dune Ridge Country House waar besoekers reeds vanaf 2012 Oos-Kaapse gasvryheid terde\u00eb kan geniet.<\/p>\n

\u201cDune Ridge is op 4 500 hektaar kus-natuurreservaat gele\u00eb wat aan Eskom behoort,\u201d s\u00ea Swanepoel. <\/p>\n

\u201cEk huur net die gedeelte waarop die gastehuis en bos-spa is. Die uitstappies word hier op die reservaat in die vleilande aangebied. Omdat ons ook as beskermheer van die reservaat optree, doen almal hier alles in hulle vermo\u00eb om te verseker dat daar geen besoedeling is nie. Die hoeveelheid padda-spesies wat gewoonlik hier voorkom is gevolglik ook \u2019n goeie aanduiding dat die ekosisteem hier baie gesond is.\u201d <\/p>\n

Daar is ongeveer 150 padda-spesies in Suid-Afrika waar 32 spesies in die Oos-Kaap voorkom en nege daarvan in die reservaat gesien kan word. <\/p>\n

\u201cOmdat paddas gewoonlik in die nag aktief is begin die uitstappie \u2013 of frogging<\/span> soos dit bekendstaan \u2013 eers so teen 19:30 wanneer dit al sterk skemer begin raak en gewoonlik maar in die somer wanneer die paddas broei,\u201d s\u00ea sy.<\/p>\n

\u201cBesoekers is welkom om voor die tyd sommer hier by Dune Ridge aandete te geniet sodat hulle betyds vir die uittog na die vleilande kan wees, of nog beter, boek sommer vir \u2019n hele naweek se kuier hier in!\u201d<\/p>\n

Die uitstappie gaan natuurlik gepaard met \u2019n stel rubberstewels, \u2019n vangnet en \u2019n sterk flits.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cDan volg mens maar die klank van die paddatjies se hofmaak-serenades totdat jy hulle te sien kry.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cAs gevolg van die droogte die afgelope paar jaar het die paddas al so vroeg as in Augustus begin broei. Die uitstappies hang ook natuurlik daarvan af.\u201d <\/p>\n

Behalwe dat die uitstappies vir besoekers gewoonlik geweldig interessant en leersaam is omdat elkeen wat gevang word se ka-raktereienskappe bespreek word, het dit ook \u2019n ander doel.<\/p>\n

\u201cDit is goeie manier om die paddas te monitor \u2013 wat belangrik is om seker te maak die ekosisteem gesond bly,\u201d s\u00ea sy. <\/p>\n

\u201cDie paddas wat gevang word, word ge\u00efdentifiseer, gelys en dan weer vrygelaat om voort te gaan met hulle ge-opsittery in die vlei!\u201d<\/p>\n

By die Dune Ridge Country house kan besoekers ook begeleide uitstappies in die inheemse bos met sy verskeie vo\u00eblspesies onderneem, die duine gaan verken en daarna bederf word met \u2019n heerlike lyfmassering by die bos-spa. Die ensuite-kamers het elkeen \u2019n private ingang en daar is ook \u2019n familiekamer waar sommer die hele gesin in kan tuisgaan.<\/p>\n

Behalwe om die dag op die strand deur te bring en in die somer in die see af te koel is daar in die nabye omgewing is ook meer as genoeg om te doen soos gholf speel, \u2019n rit op die St. Francis-kanale of \u2019n besoek aan die Seal Point-lighuis in Kaap St. Francis. <\/p>\n

Dit kos R200 vir volwassenes en R100 vir \u2019n kinders jonger as twaalf om aan die padda-safari deel te neem.<\/p>\n
