The Churchill Dam was at 16.1%, with the small Loerie Dam balancing at 27.99% as per the latest information from Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality on July 7.<\/p>\n<div contenteditable=\"false\" data-embed24=\"Images\" data-pos=\"middle\" id=\"embed_a74aabd5\">\n<div class=\"slide\"><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Water\" data-smallsrc=\"https:\/\/cdn.24.co.za\/files\/Cms\/General\/d\/10138\/9f69127f7a1d4a15945ee8b8d7650d9c.jpg\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn.24.co.za\/files\/Cms\/General\/d\/10138\/8f6b8a61b4444c83ad969c749e5b7e79.jpg\" title=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"img_accreditation\"><span class=\"source\" style=\"display:none;\"><\/span><span class=\"photographer\" style=\"display:none;\"><\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIf the water usage is not reduced significantly by the end of July, water-flow restrictors will be implemented across the region,\u201d said Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks. <\/p>\n<p>Hendricks continued that, should this fail to be effective, the municipality would be forced to implement strict water rationing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis means that water will only be available from the taps for a few hours per day and will be shut off for the remainder of the day,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAny planned restrictions will be carefully considered and proper consultation with affected parties will take place before water curtailing measures are implemented.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the municipality has been working around the clock to implement measures to circumvent the prospect that the Kouga region runs out of water.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This includes the possibility of connecting additional viable bore-holes across the area to the various water treatment works, while the drilling of exploratory bore-holes is also being investigated.<\/p>\n<p>The municipality is, furthermore, in the process of erecting five 5 000<em>l<\/em>\u00a0designated water points in Hankey to ensure residents have access to clean drinking water.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs part of the municipality\u2019s efforts to manage water usage, municipal taps are turned off at public open spaces; all municipal buildings will be equipped with rainwater harvesting tanks, and stringent measures have been put in place to ensure that the restricted allocation of water \u2013 50l per person per day \u2013 is adhered to,\u201d said Hendricks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe municipality is also working with law enforcement to enforce compliance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Residents are reminded that the current water restrictions prohibit the connection of a hosepipe or an irrigation system to taps supplying water from the municipal system.<\/p>\n<p>Pools may not be filled or topped up, and the washing of paved areas, roofs and walls with municipal water is also not allowed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery one of us has a role to play in preventing Kouga\u2019s taps from running dry \u2013 we must do all we can to save water,\u201d said
