Het jy al ooit voet gesit in Genesis 1 \u2013 \u2019n w\u00eareld vol van asemrowende natuur en net \u2019n mens of twee? Mariska Spoormaker<\/strong> het hierdie soort w\u00eareld gevind toe sy die Antjie se Pad-voetslaanroetes in die Kougaberge gaan verken het.<\/p>\n

Die w\u00eareld is blou, dit is berge agtermekaar ingevou \u2026<\/p>\n

S\u00f3 draai \u2019n mens se gedagtes daar waar jy op Blouberg in die Kouga-bergreeks staan.<\/p>\n

Hoeveel mense weet hoe mooi is hierdie w\u00eareld, hierdie bergreeks wat die suidelike front van die Baviaanskloof vorm?<\/p>\n

\u201cDit is nou een ding van s\u00f3 \u2019n besonderse landskap,\u201d s\u00ea Izzy Leask, sekretaresse van Voetsac, Nelson Mandelabaai se bekende voetslaanklub, \u201cgeen kamera kan afneem wat die oog sien nie … veral nie hier nie.\u201d <\/p>\n

Sy en haar man Wayne, voorsitter van Voetsac, het na di\u00e9 besonderse stuk Oos-Kaapse aarde in die Kougaberge gekom om alle fasette van Antjie se Pad te inspekteer om terugvoering aan die Voetsac-lede, altyd gretig vir nuwe voetslaanroetes, te gee.<\/p>\n

Maar wie en wat is Antjie se Pad?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Herman Stoffberg, boukontrakteur van Oesterbaai wat die Antjie se Pad-staproetes ontwikkel het, kan nie uitgepraat raak nie oor Antjie, die vrou uit die vroe\u00eb 1930\u2019s wat di\u00e9 voetslaanroetes ge\u00efnspireer het.<\/p>\n

\u201cHierdie paadjie agter teen Blouberg op word Antjie se Pad se pad genoem,\u201d verduidelik Herman.<\/p>\n

\u201cAntjie Stuurman se voetslaanpad in die vroe\u00eb 1930\u2019s het begin by Trekkloof, nog dieper en nog ho\u00ebr op in die Kougaberge waar sy en haar man Booi, in hul veeposhuis gebly het. Van die veeposhuis af het sy die 10km na Witteklip se plaasopstal geloop deur die skaapvoetpaadjie oor berge en dale te volg. Wanneer sy klaar gewerk het, het sy dieselfde pad weer huis toe geloop.\u201d <\/p>\n

Antjie se storie het Herman teen die hart geslaan.<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2019n Mens moet Antjie se Pad gaan beleef. Jy kan nie empatie met Antjie en haar pad werk toe h\u00ea as jy hom nie self gestap het nie om te weet hoe dit is om 20 kilometer in hierdie berge-w\u00eareld te stap.\u201d <\/p>\n

Voetslaanroetes<\/strong><\/p>\n

Om ander mense Antjie se ervaring te laat beleef, het Herman, in oorleg met die grondeienaars, die twee Antjie se Pad-voetslaanroetes ontwikkel. Die een strek oor drie dae en is in totaal 37km lank en die ander strek oor vyf dae en is 56km lank.<\/p>\n

Albei di\u00e9 voetslaanroetes begin by die Witteklip plaasopstal waar Antjie gewerk het. Dit kronkel deur Dwarsfonteinkloof en volg dan die tweespoorpad teen Blouberg uit, verby Trekkloof waar Antjie en haar man gebly het, en gaan dan aan tot by Watervalkloof se oornaghut. Di\u00e9 stap-afstand is 16 kilometer.<\/p>\n

\u201cOns re\u00ebl dit so dat die stappers in elke stapgroep voel hulle is die enigste mense in hierdie berge-w\u00eareld,\u201d verduidelik Herman, \u201cwant hierdie voetslaanroetes is vir my ook \u2019n verering van \u2019n mens wat elke dag as werkende persoon, haar 10km roete oor steil bulte al langs die skaapvoetpad gestap het. Dit is \u2019n stukkie nalatenskap vir die generasies na haar om dieselfde pragtige natuur te kan inneem.\u201d <\/p>\n

Ons wat saam met Herman die besonderse berge-landskap met sy ryk biodiversiteit per 4×4 voertuig verken het, het nog dae later gesukkel om weer by teerstrate, verkeersligte en kantoorgeboue aan te pas, want hierdie besoek aan die Genesis 1-w\u00eareld brand in jou geheue vas.<\/p>\n

Presies d\u00ect het met Herman gebeur toe hy aanvanklik \u2019n Graad 1-klas vir die plaasskooltjie Boplaas-Prim\u00ear daar gaan bou het.<\/p>\n

\u201cEk was bevoorreg om in daardie tyd \u2019n bietjie wyer oor die gebied te ry, en die natuur het s\u00f3 diep in my siel gekruip dat ek die grondeienaars gevra het of \u2019n mens maar nie di\u00e9 besonderse landskap met \u2019n paar baie fikse stappers kan deel nie,\u201d vertel Herman.<\/p>\n

Die grondeienaars \u2013 Henco en Swart du Plessis \u2013 het goed daaroor gekoukus aangesien dit nog \u2019n werkende veeplaas is voordat hulle die groen lig vir Herman gegee het.<\/p>\n

Antjie was \u2019n yster<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cHenco het my vertel van Antjie en die lang pad wat sy gestap het na haar werk en toe weet ek: hierdie voetslaanroetes sal ter ere van haar ontwikkel word. Antjie moes \u2019n besonderse vrou gewees het \u2013 sy was fiks, sy was \u2019n yster.\u201d <\/p>\n

En soos jy klim en klim teen Antjie se pad uit, s\u00f3 maak die w\u00eareld anderkant die ho\u00eb bulte al hoe meer oop \u2013 berge wat in verskillende skakerings van groen tot ligblou agter mekaar oopvou.<\/p>\n

\u201cKyk,\u201d s\u00ea Herman, \u201cdaar sien jy die Tsitsikammaberge, daar die Baviaanskloofberge en daar anderkant is Hanekamberg … kyk, dit lyk soos die gesig van \u2019n man met \u2019n lang neus en \u2019n dubbelken!\u201d <\/p>\n

Vir \u2019n mens met hoogtevrees lyk alles soos duiselingwekkende hoogtes vanuit die voertuig waarin jy sit.<\/p>\n

Herman lag oor di\u00e9 opmerking. \u201cWanneer jy dit stap soos Antjie, dan sal jy nie hoogtevrees kry nie \u2013 dis mos anders as wanneer jy in \u2019n kar sit en die krans is hier reg langs jou venster.\u201d <\/p>\n

Vir die voetslaner sal die enigste teken van \u2019n werkende plaas wees wanneer \u2019n paar bergklimmende merinos verbykom, verder sien jy net die natuur, want sover die oog kan sien, is daar geen mensgemaakte stuktuur nie.<\/p>\n

Dit is net jy, jou voetval en die skepping. <\/p>\n

Net voor dit mag klink asof die skrywer self daar gestap het, moet dit onderstreep word dat sy Antjie se Pad-voetslaanroetes as passasier in \u2019n 4×4 voertuig beleef het. Dit opsigself was \u2019n groot voorreg, want daar word slegs voorsiening vir voetslaners gemaak en ni\u00e9 vir viertrekvoertuie of bergfietse nie.<\/p>\n

Maar eendag is een dag, dan gaan Antjie se Pad voetval vir voetval gestap word.<\/p>\n

Herman luister aandagtig na di\u00e9 voorneme, vertel dan van Nookie, die 82-jarige Skotse vrou wat Antjie oor vyf dae aangepak het.<\/p>\n

\u201cSy het na die tyd ges\u00ea Antjie is gewis nie vir beginners nie en toe bygevoeg Antjie se Pad is uphill, downhill, but never a flat part. But it is like walking through the garden of Eden<\/span>.\u201d<\/p>\n

En dit is hoe die lewe is, voeg Herman by, \u201cJy het so af en toe \u2019n gelyk stukkie pad, en as jy bo is, dan sien jy die mooi uitsigte. As jy in die vallei is, het jy \u2019n stukkie mooi, maar jy moet \u00earens weer uit die vallei uit kom en jy moet jouself optel. As jy sien hier is nog \u2019n bultjie, dan moet jy jouself geestelik voorberei om weer bo te kom.<\/p>\n
