HUMANSDORP gently slopes amid indigenous fynbos in the cradle of the Kouga district. <\/p>\n
Visitors might overlook the town due to the lack of ocean and beaches, but it is a hidden gem.<\/p>\n
The man who charmingly unearths the historical riches of the town and surrounding settlements, is Eric Ngindo, of Ntabeni Unique Tours.<\/p>\n
Ngindo, also a freelance reporter and photographer, found these treasures while exploring his hometown and the surrounding settlements \u2013 prompting him to share them in his township tours with visitors and tourists.<\/p>\n
Township tours include areas like Kruisfontein and Moerasrivier \u2013 sporting charming churches. <\/p>\n
It was while Ngindo traversed all over these stomping grounds that he came across the small community of Die Berg. <\/p>\n
The family names (now spread over the region) speak of Die Berg\u2019s cultural diversity: Trompetter, Louw, Fleur, Juba, Ketteldas<\/span>, Leander, Dlamini, Matiwane<\/span>, Naka, Swart and Williams.<\/p>\n In the tiny abode of seamstress Rosaline Louw, in Die Berg community, is a plaque which dates from 1846 to 2006, making theirs a history to explore.<\/p>\n \u201cWe have a rich culture,\u201d says Ngindo. \u201cIt is worth exploring in township tours, educational tours where we teach the importance of nature conservation, indigenous games, hiking trails, mountain biking and quad biking.<\/p>\n \u201cThe fauna and flora are exceptional, and the fynbos attracts bees which produce smooth honey. Accommodation<\/span> abounds and the area is buzzing with activities.\u201d<\/p>\n Ngindo especially works with youngsters in the area with the aim of sustaining \u201cour community by creating<\/span> economic opportunities and constructing a healthy proactive society.
