THE LINK app, Kouga Municipality\u2019s service delivery app, turned over a new leaf \u2013 making it easier for residents to report and track service delivery problems in their respective wards.<\/p>\n
An improved version of the app \u2013 enabling residents to take photos and provide a description of the incident \u2013 is now available to Kouga residents. They will receive regular progress reports.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe app gives residents an easy and effective way to communicate directly with Kouga Municipality about any problems or service issues within their community and to monitor what progress has been made towards resolving grievances,\u201d said Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks. \u201cIssues can range from traffic lights and potholes to water leaks, sewage overflow, illegal dumping, no electricity and more.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Hendricks, the app was designed to encourage active citizenry and provide residents with local information.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe LINK app will not only help to improve communication with residents, but it will also allow us to harness the power of data on service delivery and to plan and respond effectively to breakdowns and preventative maintenance.\u201d<\/p>\n
Incidents reported<\/p>\n
More than 166 000 incidents were resolved through the Call Centre and Link App from October 2017 to November 2021 alone. A total of 45 786 potholes across the region were repaired. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis increase is largely due to the pothole repair programme, which was launched by the municipality in September 2018,\u201d said Hendricks. \u201cWhile we still have a long way to go when it comes to road repairs, it is heartening to see the progress.\u201d<\/p>\n
The emptying of septic tanks made up the bulk service requests, with 58 227 being attended to. A total of 19 792 sewer blockages were also cleared during the same period.<\/p>\n
The municipality had further escalated its war on leaks, with 7 190 burst water pipes and 5 380 leaking meters having been repaired.<\/p>\n
Some 6 876 power interruptions were attended to, and 3 117 faulty street lights were fixed. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe would further like to thank residents for reporting illegal dumping. A total of 1 109 illegal dumping sites were reported and cleaned since October 2017,\u201d said Hendricks.<\/p>\n
