After learning that the Department of Education was unable to provide learners at two schools in Humansdorp with the necessary stationery, non-profit organisation, Ikhaya Labakhaya, generously handed over schoolbooks to the two schools.<\/p>\n
According to group member, Xolani Woni, the NPO consisted of 40 members and was initially established in 2020 to allow the members, who were all from Humansdorp, to keep in touch with each other since many of them had moved away for work.<\/p>\n
Since their goal had always been to see their home town prosper in all aspects, Woni said the group had continuously tried their best to help individuals and schools.<\/p>\n
After it was reported on the news that the Department of Education was unable to provide learners at their alma maters, Mzingisi Primary School and Lungiso High School, with the necessary stationery, members of the NPO felt the need to help.<\/p>\n
Despite their lack of resources, the group was able to put together R2 000 from their own pockets, as well as generous donations from individuals in the Kwa-Nomzamo community, to buy books for the learners at the two schools.<\/p>\n
\u201cOn the day we handed over the books at Lungiso High School, we met with some of our previous teachers, and they could not hold back their tears when they saw what we did for our school,\u201d said Woni.<\/p>\n
When donating books to the school, Woni said they noticed Lungiso High\u2019s school name had faded and needed to be repainted.<\/p>\n
With help from Masixole Boesak, a Grade 12 learner at the school, they then got to the task of painting the school\u2019s name on the wall at the entrance.<\/p>\n
For the group to continue with their good work in Humansdorp, Woni said they needed to raise much-needed funds and receive financial help.<\/p>\n
He said the group was not focused on making money or enriching themselves; instead they did good work in the community because they loved their small town.<\/p>\n
