Ceramic artist, Petrus Malando, from Acadia in Humansdorp, has always loved working with his hands, but it was only one year ago when he realised his passion for ceramics, which has seen him creating beautifully crafted pieces, using material found in rubbish bins and on the streets.<\/p>\n

Despite his love for working with his hands from a young age, Malando\u2019s career choice led him to work for Calibre Security in St Francis Bay for many years, before retiring in 2019.<\/p>\n

Fortunately, with more free time on his hands after his retirement, he discovered a new love for creating ceramic artwork with creek stone, cement, and recyclable material.<\/p>\n

Even though he has been in retirement for three years now, Malando said it was only one year ago when he began working hard on creating beautiful art pieces and considered selling them.<\/p>\n

Since then, he has created a variety of ceramic pieces such as flower pots, praying hands, roses, and various animals.<\/p>\n

In addition, he collected and used all types of recyclable material which people threw away, which he then incorporated into his art pieces.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love it when I pick up something from the rubbish bin and make something beautiful out of it,\u201d said Malando.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can make magic using something as simple as an empty toilet roll and I transform it into something beautiful which can be hung on a wall.\u201d<\/p>\n

Malando said he initially began creating ceramic pieces as a hobby, but soon people in his community requested him to make specific items for them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI create ceramic pieces at my own pace. I find peace and happiness when I am creating something beautiful,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Since Malando runs his ceramic business from his home in Acadia, he does not have much space to expand his business.<\/p>\n

He therefore hopes to find a suitable workshop to run his business and create many more beautiful ceramic pieces.<\/p>\n
