Enthusiastic learners, bookworms, researchers, and lovers of the written word can now once again feed their literary fix.<\/p>\n

The Jeffreys Bay Library, situated at the old Ski Boat Club in Diaz Road, reopened to the public on Monday, December 5.<\/p>\n

This after the library was closed temporarily on Friday, May 14, 2021, for state-of-the-art renovations, and has operated from a blue container in front of the building since August last year.<\/p>\n

Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks, said that the R12,9 million renovation and expansion project included a new bathroom, a special children\u2019s section, computer room, study room\/activity room, new furniture and a guard house.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe internet connectivity also received a helpful boost \u2013 making online research that much more effective,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

According to Hendricks, libraries are a direct investment in the overall development of communities.<\/p>\n

\u201cLibraries speak to our mental and spiritual needs,\u201d he said. \u201cWe are more than just flesh and bone \u2013 our minds, hearts and spirits are just as important and need to be stimulated for us to develop to our full potential.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is my true desire that the upgraded library will play this vital developmental role \u2013 no matter if you are young or old.\u201d<\/p>\n

He continued that libraries have the potential to be a powerful instrument of change by giving residents access to knowledge.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd nothing in this world is more important and powerful than knowledge,\u201d said Hendricks.<\/p>\n

\u201cIn the words of former president, Nelson Mandela, education \u2013 thus knowledge \u2013 is the most powerful weapon one can use to change the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Jeffreys Bay Library will be open from 09:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Friday. <\/p>\n
