Kouga Municipality is set to start the New Year on a sporting high \u2013 with close to 30 sporting disciplines set to compete in the annual Kouga Mayor\u2019s Cup tournament this year.<\/p>\n

The tournament will once again see the region\u2019s top soccer, rugby, netball, golf, tennis, cricket, and chess players competing for top honours. Added to that, boxing, gymnastics, volleyball, and touch rugby will also feature.<\/p>\n

And it is hoped to add even more. <\/p>\n

Thus, all accredited sporting codes not yet part of the Mayor\u2019s Cup, are invited to enter the tournament before January 31.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will also be engaging with our disabled community, as we would like to include them in the games,\u201d said Kouga Executive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks. <\/p>\n

The adrenaline-packed tournament will take place over two months, from March to April, under the theme \u201cBreaking Barriers\u201d \u2013 with the final matches taking place on April 22.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile sport helps to keep participants fit and healthy and is also a means of unifying people from all walks of life, this tournament is more than just sport,\u201d said Hendricks. \u201cIt is about breaking barriers \u2013 whether physical or emotional.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is about caring for one another \u2013 whether young or old. We must learn to support each other to make a difference in our communities, because we care about each other.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll our futures are dependent on the extent to which we care, fighting for something other than ourselves \u2013 embracing Ubuntu.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to Hendricks, sport furthermore teaches one how important it is to move forward together \u2013 no-one should be left behind.<\/p>\n
