Kouga Municipality
\nis set to spend over R8 million over the next three months on the
\nelectrification of the current Ocean View housing project, as well as critical
\nbulk infrastructure.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This after
\nreceiving R8.1 million from the Department of Energy (DoE) through the
\nIntegrated National Electrification Programme (INEP) grant at the end of March this
\nyear \u2013 R2 million more than the original grant awarded in October last year.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Kouga
\nExecutive Mayor, Horatio Hendricks said, \u201cThe DoE increased the grant amount
\nafter the appointment of a contractor one month before the set appointment date
\n\u2013 acknowledging Kouga\u2019s commitment towards improving the lives of those less
\nfortunate.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
He further
\nsaid the project will consist of two parts.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Hendricks said
\nthe first part will see the electrification of the first 200 houses being
\nconstructed as part of the much-needed Ocean View 1 500 housing project in
\nJeffreys Bay.<\/p>\n
He said an
\nadditional transformer will, furthermore, be installed at the Ocean View
\nsubstation to accommodate the increase in electricity load.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Hendricks
\nsaid the second part of the project will secure the upgrading of the 66kv line
\nfeeding Jeffreys Bay \u2013 securing energy reliability to Jeffreys Bay.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cUnfortunately,
\nthe cost to replace the complete line is approximately R40 million. However,
\nevery rand invested in this project, is well received,\u201d said Hendricks.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Work is set
\nto commence within the next two weeks, and it is estimated that the project
\nwill be completed by the end of June 2023.\u00a0<\/p>\n
