The Humansdorp Central Business District (CBD) is set to be revived as part of the Kouga Council\u2019s strategy to breathe new life into the region\u2019s economy.<\/p>\n
This after council recently approved the Humansdorp Central Business District Local Spatial Development Framework.<\/p>\n
Funding for the first phase of the project will form a priority on the budget in the new financial year \u2013 the 2024\/2025 financial year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe aim of the plan is to breathe new life into the region\u2019s economy, by making the Humansdorp CBD more attractive to investors, businesses, residents, and visitors alike,\u201d said Kouga Executive mayor, Hattingh Bornman.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe CBD has not only been identified as a strategic investment node in the municipality\u2019s Local Economic Development Strategy and Spatial Development Framework, but also as a main development area within the municipality in terms of industrial development \u2013 especially for the energy sector.<\/p>\n
\u201cSimply stated, it means that it is an area with great development and investment potential.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to Bornman, the idea is to revive the CBD in partnership with community, public and private roleplayers.<\/p>\n
The five-to-ten-year implementation plan includes the widening of walkways, cycle lanes, CCTV surveillance, informal trading facilities, and the development of a waste recycling centre, as well as a new taxi rank and traffic lights.<\/p>\n
Also high on the priority list is the establishment of a stormwater management plan and sanitation high level study.<\/p>\n
Landscaping and maintenance, furthermore, play a vital role in the plan.<\/p>\n
\u201cPotential economic spin-offs will include enhanced property values, as well as an increase in business and employment opportunities,\u201d said Bornman.<\/p>\n
