Thankfully, after receiving a tremendous support from the community, the Nation Builders Prophetic Apostolic Movement (NBPAM), a service centre for the elderly in Humansdorp in conjunction with the Kouga Municipality, managed to host a successful event aimed at educating young people about the importance of supporting the elderly.<\/p>\n

As previously reported by Kouga Express<\/span> the founder of NBPAM, pastor Ashwell Goliath, said they have noticed that the relationship between children, their parents, and grandparents has been ruined by crime, violence, drugs, alcohol abuse, and gangsterism in the community.<\/p>\n

In addition to this, he said they have seen many forms of negligence and abuse towards the elderly, where their health and nutrition were not taken care of. <\/p>\n

Goliath further said the elderly often miss their clinic appointments, and do not use their medication as prescribed.<\/p>\n

In a bid to help young people understand the importance of supporting and taking care of the elderly, NBPAM together with the municipality hosted a breakfast event at the Kate van der Merwe Cr\u00e8che in Humansdorp on November 4, which was a great success.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe event was used as a platform to make young people aware of the importance of becoming more involved with organisations that work with the elderly and vulnerable in the community,\u201d said Goliath.<\/p>\n

He said at the event they had local artist John Nelson, who has a passion for the elderly, perform a few songs.<\/p>\n

In addition, they also had guest speaker Marietjie Boonzaaier, retired social worker and facilitator for Alzheimer\u2019s support group, speak about Alzheimer\u2019s and dementia.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe did an excellent job speaking about two very important topics, Alzheimer\u2019s and dementia. She also gave powerful tools to those who have elderly family members suffering with these diseases,\u201d said Goliath.<\/p>\n

He said that the event was meant to be educational and change the mindsets of young people, to encourage them to take better care of their elderly parents and grandparents.<\/p>\n

Some of the young people said that the event was an eye opener for them, and that they also realised that they have to do more for their parents and the elderly in the community.<\/div>\n

The sponsors of the event included Kouga Municipality and Kekkel en Kraai in Humansdorp.<\/p>\n
