A totalof 16 arrests were made, and 471 fines amounting to R459 000 were issued during joint safety operations, including three roadblocks, in Kouga over the festive season.<\/p>\n
Among these fines, a total of R50 100 accounted for 68 public transport-related offences.<\/p>\n
The primary offences were related to drivers not possessing a driver\u2019s licence \u2013 136 cases. It is important to note that this does not necessarily imply motorists were without a licence, rather they did not have it in their possession at the time.<\/p>\n
At the number two spot were unlicensed motor vehicles \u201384. This was followed by not wearing a seatbelt (53), lamps and lights not working (38), and overloading of passengers (36).<\/p>\n
Other offences include not stopping at a stop sign \u2013 10, unroadworthy tyres \u2013 9, operating a cell phone while driving \u2013 9, and no professional driving permit \u2013 8.<\/p>\n
Some 16 drivers were arrested for drinking and driving.<\/p>\n
Kouga executive mayor, Hattingh Bornman, praised the collaborative efforts of Kouga\u2019s law enforcement agencies in ensuring the safety of residents and visitors.<\/p>\n
