The Kouga Wind Farm Community Development Trust (KWFCDT) recently handed over minibuses and the completed construction and retrofitting of combi courts at three primary schools in Humansdorp.<\/p>\n
At the event, which took place on July 12, KWFCDT handed over two minibuses to Graslaagte Primary, and two minibuses to Kruisfontein Primary.<\/p>\n
In addition, phase one of the combi-courts project has seen an investment of R1.6 million towards the construction of one new combi court at Kruisfontein Primary and the retrofitting of four courts at Mzingisi, Graslaagte, and Kruisfontein primary schools. <\/p>\n
The combi courts, which cater for tennis, basketball, and netball, are part of a broader initiative by KWFCDT to enhance sports facilities within the beneficiary schools. <\/p>\n
\u201cSchools without proper infrastructure struggle to provide students with opportunities for physical activities which are crucial for their physical health and overall well-being. This not only impacts physical fitness but also hampers the holistic growth of our students. These challenges collectively impact the quality of education and the overall development of our students. Without reliable transport and adequate sports facilities, our children miss out on essential experiences that contribute significantly to their growth, both academically and personally,\u201d said KWFCDT Chairperson, Dr Motlalepule Nathane-Taulela.<\/p>\n
Nathane-Taulela further said that KWFCDT is proud to hand over four minibuses as part of their pilot project.<\/p>\n
She said the intervention goes beyond transportation; instead, it is about opening up new opportunities for learners.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn recognising the importance of sport in student development, the Trust also embarked on the Combi Courts Project, and we celebrate the completion of phase one,\u201d said Nathane-Taulela.<\/p>\n
KWFCDT has also addressed the transport challenges Graslaagte and Kruisfontein Primary schools face. <\/p>\n
Located in quintile 1-3 no-fee-paying areas, these schools often struggle with transportation for inter-school sports activities, curriculum, and cultural excursions. <\/p>\n
By donating four minibuses, with each school receiving two, KWFCDT aims at alleviating these challenges and supporting the educational and extra-curricular activities of the learners.<\/p>\n
This transport intervention, piloted at Kruisfontein Primary and Graslaagte Primary, involved an investment of R2.5 million. <\/p>\n
As part of the handover ceremony, the KWFCDT\u2019s commitment to sports development within schools showcased fun and friendly matches at Kruisfontein Primary School. <\/p>\n
The event featured netball games between Mzingisi Primary and Kruisfontein Primary, and tennis matches involving Graslaagte Primary. <\/p>\n
The KWFCDT is dedicated to empowering communities to be self-reliant, resilient, and sustainable, achieving this through strategic initiatives under its Seven Pillars with arts, culture, and sports development, and education and skills development being two of them. <\/p>\n
