A COMMUNITY clean-up of Storms River Village took place on Friday, July 19. <\/p>\n
Light work was made of the project in which SanParks and their local Working on Fire team, Tsitsikamma Edu-Care, Montessori Tsitsikamma, and residents, participated.<\/p>\n
The project was initiated by the Earthlings, a group of village children under leadership of SanParks Kudu Award winner, Joslin Bauer.<\/p>\n
Bauer is the Social Economic Transformation Director of STORMS NPC, a non-profit company that was formed by Storms River Village residents to self-regulate safety, security, and tourism. <\/p>\n
All its portfolios are voluntary.<\/p>\n
Bauer started taking village children on walks in the local forest and fynbos in 2019, and chose Earthlings as the name for their group.<\/p>\n
Part of their regular activities is cleaning up their environment.<\/p>\n
The second part of the weekend clean-up would have been further collection of litter on July 20, but was postponed to Saturday, July 27, due to bad weather; another community activity to look forward to.<\/p>\n
Three new rubbish-bag containers, cement structures sponsored by Glacier by Sanlam, were also put into use. They will eventually be painted by local children.<\/p>\n
Black refuse bags were donated by John Ethio Supermarket and retired businessman Jan du Rand. <\/p>\n
