In a groundbreaking moment for the sport of kneeboard surfing, the iconic \u201csurfing mecca\u201d of Jeffreys Bay is set to host the Cine FX Kneeboard Surfing World Titles 2024, sanctioned by Surfing South Africa, at Lower Point from August 17 to 24.<\/p>\n
The Kneeboard Surfing World Titles will feature an unprecedented number of competitors, countries, and notable kneeboarders from around the globe.<\/p>\n
Kneeboarding, a distinctive form of surfing, involves riding waves on a specialised board while kneeling. <\/p>\n
Kneeboarding requires a compact stance, which allows for dynamic wave riding closer to the pocket and tube.<\/p>\n
The last time South Africa hosted a world kneeboarding championship was in Durban in 1993, a much smaller event involving only South Africa, New Zealand, and Australia. <\/p>\n
The Jeffreys Bay event will be a major leap forward, with competitors from 11 countries participating, showcasing the sport\u2019s growth and global appeal.<\/p>\n
The reigning World Title holders are Linda Ash (SA) and Tom Gray (SA), who clinched their titles in Portugal in 2022.<\/p>\n
\u201cTo have World Champs at J-Bay is huge. Just the name of Jeffreys Bay holds so much esteem throughout all facets of the surfing culture,\u201d said Gray.<\/p>\n
For the first time in kneeboarding history, the championship will utilise advanced technology, including live video feeds, electronic scoring, and jet ski patrols in the water. <\/p>\n
Scores will be broadcast live at the venue and online, allowing fans worldwide to follow the action in real-time.<\/p>\n
The event will feature both seasoned champions and emerging talents. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe can\u2019t wait for all competitors to experience what our beautiful country has to offer and surf the incredible waves of Jeffreys Bay,\u201d said Ash.<\/p>\n
Before the World Titles, the WestSide Contest in Cape Town will serve as a crucial warm-up and qualification event from August 9 to 11.<\/p>\n
This contest will provide an opportunity for local and international competitors to secure their spots, particularly for those who may have faced work commitments or injuries affecting their qualifications. <\/p>\n
The Cine FX Kneeboard Surfing World Titles 2024 in Jeffreys Bay is made possible by title sponsor Cine FX, and supporting sponsors Occuvision, Woeskus Mag, Paddy Pads, Parkes Kneeboards, Vissla, Country Feeling, Surfing South Africa, Bilt and Westside Kneelo.<\/p>\n
