KOUGA Local Municipality is facing a serious and escalating crisis due to the ongoing vandalism and theft of municipal infrastructure. <\/p>\n
In the past month alone, electrical cables at the Humansdorp Fire Station have been stolen five times, plunging the station into darkness for hours at a time and severely impacting emergency response services. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis deliberate sabotage threatens the safety and well-being of the community and cannot be tolerated,\u201d said Kouga Executive Deputy Mayor and Member of the Mayoral Committee for Electro and Mechanical Services, Timothy Jantjes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe cannot allow criminals to continue crippling essential services and putting our residents at risk. Theft and vandalism of municipal infrastructure directly impact service delivery and hurt the entire community. <\/p>\n
\u201cThey disrupt power supply, water infrastructure, and public facilities \u2013 forcing residents to endure unnecessary hardships. Repairing the damage diverts funds from essential infrastructure projects, ultimately making life harder for everyone. <\/p>\n
\u201cThis is not just a municipal issue \u2013 it is a community issue, and we all have a role to play in stopping it.\u201d<\/p>\n
To combat this criminal destruction, the municipality is offering a reward of R10 000 for information leading to the successful arrest and prosecution of those responsible for vandalising municipal infrastructure.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe urge residents to come forward with any information that can help bring these offenders to justice,\u201d said Jantjes.<\/p>\n
Residents who have witnessed suspicious activities or possess any information regarding infrastructure damage are urged to contact Senior Law Enforcement Officials, Johnny Hayward at 081 322 7399, and Adam Floors at 081 215 8713.<\/p>\n
