In an area plagued with gangsterism, crime, and drug abuse, residents in Humansdorp have banded together to host a mentor session at the Upperroom Family Worship Centre in Arcadia on March 6, with Minister Jos Refo De Hoop from the Netherlands as a guest speaker. The event is supported by the Humansdorp Minister\u2019s Fraternal.<\/p>\n
Chairman of the Humansdorp Minister\u2019s Fraternal, Stephanus Baartman, said that with gangsterism and crime continuing to escalate in Humansdorp, the community is desperately seeking a solution.<\/p>\n
He said that a group of residents have arranged a mentoring session specifically for young men in the community to encourage and empower them.<\/p>\n
Baartman said that De Hoop, who was formerly known as a \u2018big-time drug dealer,\u2019 will be sharing his experience in the hope that it will motivate the youth.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough the event, we want to motivate the youth to refrain from getting involved in gangsterism and stop gangsterism throughout the town,\u201d said Baartman.<\/p>\n
He mentioned that the mentoring event, starting at 15:00, will be the first of its kind.<\/p>\n
However, Baartman said that depending on the success of this event, they hope to kick off a series of mentorship sessions for the youth at a later stage.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe hope that the event will help bring peace to the community. This event is the first step and we hope that young men will attend,\u201d said Baartman. \u201cWe will also look at the interest and then look into a programme.\u201d<\/p>\n
