HUMANSDORP <\/strong>– Cattle vaccination began across Kruisfontein on 11 February as part of ongoing efforts to contain Foot-and-Mouth Disease and prevent further spread.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a Facebook post, Executive Mayor Hattingh Bornman said that he is deeply grateful to the National Department of Agriculture for the support provided, and to the local farmers who continue to work closely with them during this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThrough strong cooperation and decisive action, we are doing everything possible to protect our livestock, our farmers, and our local economy,\u201d said Bornman.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Kouga Municipality, ahead of the vaccinations, the process was discussed and explained to farmers in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a statement, the municipality noted that due to limited supply, vaccinations commenced in the affected area, with additional areas to be included as more vaccines become available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTo date, 58 livestock have tested positive within the isolation camp, while around 10 additional cases have been confirmed on private property where animals remain isolated,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cDesignated containment areas have been identified within affected zones, and any additional sick animals will be moved to these areas to limit further transmission.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement further noted that ongoing monitoring and surveillance will continue in neighbouring areas, including KwaNomzamo, to detect and respond to any potential spread of the disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFarmers are urged to restrict the movement of livestock and ensure animals remain confined at all times. Movement of livestock into or out of the Kruisfontein area is strictly prohibited, and transportation within or beyond the affected zone may only take place with official permission and documentation. Unauthorised movement will result in enforcement action,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Residents are encouraged to report any roaming animals to the Kouga Call Centre at 042 200 2200 or 081 760 9183 (WhatsApp only).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
