HUMANSDORP <\/strong>– The unwavering commitment of an off-duty police officer resulted in the arrest of a taxi driver for the illegal possession of a firearm and the recovery of a firearm and ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to police spokesperson Captain Marius McCarthy, information in police records indicates that on 30 September at about 21:00, an off-duty police officer attached to Hankey SAPS witnessed a quarrel amongst taxi drivers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noticed that one of the taxi drivers had a firearm in his possession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McCarthy said that the off-duty member called for backup. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Minutes later, the suspect got into a white Suzuki sedan and drove off in the direction of Humansdorp.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Members gave chase and spotted the white Suzuki sedan in Humansdorp, where the vehicle was stopped and searched,” said McCarthy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said that the taxi driver was arrested for illegal possession of a firearm, and the loaded weapon found in his possession was confiscated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

McCarthy said that the suspect is due to appear before the Humansdorp Magistrate’s Court soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
