THE annual tea-party in aid of Cradock Cancer Care was held in the Cradock Preparatory School hall last Friday. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Each of 20 hostesses entertained 10 guests at a table and an amount of about R14 000 was collected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This year\u2019s event was graced by the presence of a group of men and women who belong to the Fish River Canoe club. They are responsible for arranging the Great Fish River Canoe Marathon which attracts more than 1 000 national and international canoeists and thousands of spectators to Cradock each year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
They are staunch supporters of Cradock Cancer Care and their sponsors, Imbev (previously known as Hansa), and represented by Riaan van Jaarsveld and Travis Venter, have graciously donated funds to Cradock Cancer Care over the years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
These funds are indispensable to alleviate the needs of, and support patients suffering from cancer in Cradock and the nearby areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the 37th Fish River Canoe Marathon, to be contested on October 5 and 6 this year, top canoeists from all over the world will be contesting for the SA K-1 Championships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The idea of holding a tea party to collect funds for cancer patients was started 32 years ago and has been going on annually ever since. Cradock Cancer Care was established a few years later and now provides nursing services, train or bus fare tickets to people who cannot afford to travel to Port Elizabeth for treatment and all other financial and psychological support where needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cradock Cancer Care wishes to thank Emmie Marais and Linda Taylor for their musical contribution, Kobie Joubert for supplying tables and table clothes, Cradock Funeral Services for cups and plates, Karoo Wine Distributors for grape juice on all the tables, CDK for transporting tables to the venue and back and Cradock Preparatory School for the use of their hall and facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
