WELL-KNOWN chef and author, Gordon Wright, kicked off the national launch of his new cookbook Karoo Food <\/i>on Saturday, May 26, at the Graaff-Reinet Club during the fifth annual Stoep Tasting Wine Weekend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At the launch, Gordon was introduced by his wife, Rose, who is the coordinator of the Graaff-Reinet Stoep Tasting Wine Weekend. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wright said he likes to tell the stories of his food and showcase his journey through the Karoo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
His mission in life is \u201cto save the world \u2013 one bite at a time\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cTraditionally the women of the house were the ones that cooked, but nowadays it seems like the men are overshadowing them, although some of them only seek a reason to enjoy a glass of wine in the kitchen,\u201d Wright joked. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWomen have always been the backbone of the kitchen and this book is a tribute to all the great ladies in our lives who taught us how to cook. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cIt is a pity that my own mom can\u2019t be here to see my new cookbook, but she is now up in the big kitchen in the sky, watching us,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
His new cookbook does not contain complicated recipes, but rather recipes that contain good, honest ingredients which are wholesome and generally easy to get hold of. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cUse the recipes as a rough guide and add some love to it. Don\u2019t forget a nice glass of wine as well, enjoy it and let\u2019s keep Karoo food cool,\u201d Wright concluded in his speech. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Afterwards everybody enjoyed a glass of MCC and some wines sponsored by The House of Krone, Whalehaven, The Fledge & Co wines and Karoo Eyewear. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
All the Karoo Food<\/i> cookbooks were sold out within a short time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
