THE third annual Roof de Karoo Mountain Bike Challenge between Mountain Zebra and Camdeboo National Parks promises to be the best one yet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
With some space still left for two-person teams to enter, now is the perfect opportunity to book your spot in this one-of-a-kind event. The three-day mountain bike challenge, from April 4 to 7, traverses the remote mountainous areas of the two national parks, as well as several farms in between. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
From one park to another, the trail is a celebration of the Mountain Zebra Camdeboo Protected Environment (MZCPE).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 177km cycling event is hosted by the MZCPE in partnership with South African National Parks and sees participants cycling over numerous private properties which form part of the 268 000ha protected environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The MZCPE was created to protect the critical biodiversity of the area between the two national parks in the greater Karoo, centred on the four towns of Graaff-Reinet, Nieu-Bethesda, Cradock and Pearston in the Eastern Cape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Roof de Karoo Challenge is the only cycling event in the country which starts and finishes in two different national parks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Overnight pop-up camps under the magnificent Karoo stars will be set up for participants on all three nights of the challenge, accompanied by the warm hospitality of the local farmers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A maximum of 50 team slots are available for the event. Entries close on Friday, March 1. The entry fee is R4 000 per person or R7 500 per two-person team.
