{"id":49247,"date":"2019-05-30T15:39:51","date_gmt":"2019-05-30T13:39:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/komani-karoo\/union-learners-spread-the-joy-with-toys-20190529\/"},"modified":"2025-03-19T17:09:05","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T15:09:05","slug":"union-learners-spread-the-joy-with-toys-20190529","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/komani-karoo\/union-learners-spread-the-joy-with-toys-20190529\/","title":{"rendered":"Union learners spread the joy with toys"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>ON May 17, a group of Union learners paid a visit to the Sonstraal Education Centre, an early childhood development centre in Santaville, Graaff-Reinet, to hand over a mountain of toys collected through Union\u2019s recent toy drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Initiated by Elaine Stanley, the project was launched earlier this year as one of their centenary projects. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was aimed at alleviating the plight of the centre, which cares for 45 children aged two to five, with minimal funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the assistance of educator Jenny Street, this joint effort by the Union Prep School and Union High School\u2019s Junior Department turned into a huge success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Angeline Adams, who works at the centre, said the donation will go a long way in improving the lives of the children and that the kids cannot wait to play with their new toys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The school would like to thank all the parents who donated so generously, the learners for all their efforts in collecting the toys and the community for assisting them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> The Sonstraal Education Centre is an NPO largely dependent on donations.
