Express\u2019 Tanya van Zyl travelled to Johannesburg this past Sunday for the finale of M-Net\u2019s The Voice South Africa, which was broadcast live from the Mosa\u00efek Teatro in Fairlands. Kailin Daniels asked her about this experience.<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two of the finalists hailed from Port Elizabeth \u2013 Eon le Roux and the \u201cAfrican princess\u201d Siki Jo-An \u2013 but it was the rocker Tasch\u00e9 Burger, from the Mother City, who took the title as the winner of the electrifying third season of The Voice South Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Van Zyl, who rubbed shoulders with the \u201cwho\u2019s who\u201d of the entertainment industry, shares her experience with Express<\/em> readers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What was your first reaction when entering The Voice SA\u2019s auditorium?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wow, it is a lot bigger than it looks on TV!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You had the chance to meet many well-known artists, which one stood out for you and why?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Francois van Coke. He is such a humble guy and deeply invested in his talent, Tasch\u00e9 Burger. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

He even got emotional during the press conference when he spoke about how proud he was of Tasch\u00e9. He is very down to earth and even gave me a hug after talking to him!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who was your favourite finalist and why?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I had two favourites \u2013 Siki Jo-An Qwazi and Tasch\u00e9. Both of them are so talented and versatile and just had that star quality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siki Jo-An and Eon le Roux, the finalists from Port Elizabeth, were brilliant. What were their reactions when they heard that the PE Express attended the finals?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

They were very happy to know that their hometown was represented at The Voice SA finale and they were just so appreciative of all the support from back home. Eon told the PE Express that he misses home and could not wait to get back home to his mom\u2019s cooking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Will they perform in the Bay sometime this year?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Siki Jo-An has been booked out for shows until the end of the year \u2013 she is already in high demand. But I\u2019m not sure whether one of these shows will be in PE. Eon, on the other hand, said he would love to perform in PE and said he is open to being booked for shows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What did you think of Tasch\u00e9?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She is such a fun spirit. Also very down to earth and has a bubbly personality. And she has an infectious laugh; and of course, she is very talented and a deserving winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

S<\/strong>o<\/strong>me of South Africa\u2019s reno<\/strong> wned artists performed with the finalists; which performance was your favourite?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Two performances stood out for me. Son\u00e9 Joubert and the legendary Laurika Rauch singing Stuur Groete aan Mannetjies Roux<\/em> and Tasch\u00e9 singing Toe Vind Ek Jou <\/em>with Francois van Coke. I had goose bumps all over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What happens behind the scenes during the breaks?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The stage is set up for the next performance, while the coaches\u2019 make-up gets retouched. And comedian, Chris Forest, entertained the crowd along with Sibusiso Sidu, the floor manager, who was just as funny. He repeatedly had to chase Francois van Coke and Riky Rick back to their chairs just before the live show resumed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The We Will Rock You <\/em>opening was pre-recorded about 30 minutes before the live show started \u2013 this was so that the audience could also be involved in the production. They needed to record the sound and visuals prior to going live, because it still had to be edited. We probably did this about five or six times!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Is the quality of sound better in the auditorium than on television?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

You would think the sound is better on television, but honestly, I think it sounds better live! It sounds more real and authentic \u2013 and the vibe and atmosphere can only be experienced live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who were the celebrities you met on the red carpet? Do they look different in person?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

There were so many celebrities, it was hard to keep up. But Derek Watts is much taller than I originally thought, Jo Black is more handsome in person (even under all that beard) and Riana Nel is absolutely beautiful. I even got to share a (very early) ride back to the OR Tambo airport with Ewan Strydom (former presenter on Expresso on SABC3) \u2013 even at 04:00 in the morning he looks good . . .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the cocktail party after the winner was announced, did the celebs mingle with the public and media present?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yes they did. They were very open to having their photos taken with fans and the media. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

What was the one moment of the whole experience you will always cherish?<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For me it was the whole production \u2013 to physically see how much work and planning goes on behind-the-scenes into creating the show. It really was a once-in-a-lifetime ex\u00adperience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
