ONE of the longest running school cricket weeks in the country will be hosted by Union High School this weekend, with 10 leading teams competing in matches from September 20 to 24.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In its centenary year, the Graaff-Reinet school will host the 52nd anniversary celebrations of the Cape Schools\u2019 Week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The tournament was started in the 1960s, with eight teams, four from the EP and Border and four from Cape Town; meeting for a festival of cricket. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The original teams were Grey, Queen\u2019s Dale and Union High from the eastern region, with the Western Cape sides being SACS, Wynberg, Bishops and Rondebosch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paarl Boys\u2019 High will be back this year, taking on Queen\u2019s College at Asante Sana Game Reserve in their opening match on September 21. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

SACS, the oldest high school in South Africa, will be taking part again this year, with their first match to take place on Saturday, against host school Union High on Union\u2019s Minnaar Field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Paul Roos is also in the line-up and should have an interesting opener against Dale College on Saturday at the Botanics Sports Club, while Grey High School will Rondebosch in their opener on Saturday at Ho\u00ebr Volkskool, while Selborne College will be up against Wynberg in their opener on Saturday at Union\u2019s Puttick Field. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following Saturday\u2019s game against SACS, Union will play Paarl Boys, Paul Roos and Wynberg. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
