With Autumn officially at the door, it\u2019s time to get out knitting needles and wool, and what could be better than letting the needles sing for a good cause. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Camdeboo Hospice in Graaff-Reinet has invited one and all to participate in their Knit-A-Thon which is being held for the duration of the month of March. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Knit-A-Thon has a threefold purpose: raising awareness of cancer and the services rendered by the Hospice, knitting enough knee blankets to distribute to about 91 patients and raising funds to keep up the selfless work done by Hospice staff. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe currently have 29 knitters who have already registered for the Knit-A-Thon,\u201d says organiser Colleen Buckle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cYou don\u2019t even have to be able to knit to contribute to this worthy cause. We all have knitting needles lying around that we no longer use \u2013 these can be donated to the Knit-A-Thon and put to good use, as well as any odd balls of wool.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Sponsors can also make a huge difference in the lives of patients by sponsoring the blankets at R30 per knitted square. Those who can knit, can contribute knitted squares of 20cm x 20cm which is then sewn together to form knee blankets. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe have also already been blessed with a number of complete blankets beautifully done by the ladies from the NG Kerk in Adendorp,\u201d Colleen says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
