DA councillor Ewald Loock was elected as the new Executive Mayor of the Dr Beyers Naude Local Municipality during the municipality\u2019s inaugural council meeting in Graaff-Reinet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This follows the DA
\nentering into a coalition agreement with the Compatriots of South Africa (CSA)
\nand the Freedom Front Plus (FF+). The coalition agreement was finalised shortly
\nbefore the commencement of today\u2019s council meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to a statement issued by the Democratic Alliance\u2019s Andrew Whitfield (DA Eastern Cape Provincial Chairperson), Loock has served as a
\npublic representative for the best part of 26 years \u2013 13 years of which he
\nserved as the Mayor of the erstwhile Baviaans Municipality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThe CSA\u2019s Laughton Hoffman
\nwas elected as Speaker of Council and DA\u2019s Ricardo Smith was voted in as
\nChief Whip. The councillor from the FF+ was elected to serve as a
\nrepresentative in the Sarah Baartman District Council,\u201d Whitfield sain in the statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dr Beyers Naude will be
\nsending three councillors to be representatives in the Sarah Baartman District
\nCouncil. This will be one councillor from the DA, one from the FF+ and one from
\nthe ANC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis coalition opens up
\nnew opportunities for the DA and its partners to bring change to the Sarah
\nBaartman District by possibly taking over government of this district
\nmunicipality.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some of the key aspects that will be looked at in the Sarah
\nBaartman District includes improving the roads, economic growth, development of the
\ntourism sector and better support in terms of disaster management.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
