{"id":45656,"date":"2022-02-17T06:09:00","date_gmt":"2022-02-17T04:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/komani-karoo\/bursary-came-at-right-time-for-komani-resident-20220216\/"},"modified":"2025-03-19T18:26:23","modified_gmt":"2025-03-19T16:26:23","slug":"bursary-came-at-right-time-for-komani-resident-20220216","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/novanews.co.za\/komani-karoo\/bursary-came-at-right-time-for-komani-resident-20220216\/","title":{"rendered":"Bursary came at right time for Komani resident"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A BURSARY from the Shoprite Group came at just the right time for 22-year-old Siyasanga Bangani, from Komani. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With dreams of becoming an accountant, Bangani travelled to Cape Town in 2017 after completing matric, but after being introduced to information systems in her first year at the University of the Western Cape, she immediately discovered her passion and graduated with a BCom in information systems at the end of 2020. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Graduating during the COVID-19 pandemic had a marked impact on businesses around the country, so finding a job in her chosen industry was incredibly hard. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Without any formal funding \u2013 a time she described as \u201cone of the most stressful periods of my life\u201d \u2013 Bangani decided to continue studying towards an honours degree in information systems. During this period, Bangani saw an advertisement for a Shoprite Group bursary, for which she successfully applied. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am beyond grateful for this amazing opportunity. It has not only helped me pay for my studies, but it has also given me the opportunity to join the Shoprite family. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a fantastic start to my career, and I\u2019m convinced that this opportunity will lead to even more opportunities in the near future,\u201d Bangani said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li> Applications for the Shoprite Group\u2019s bursary programme are now open for the 2022 and 2023 academic years. These bursaries offer students in the fields of accounting, food sciences and information technology an opportunity to further their studies \u2013 and then go on to work for Africa\u2019s largest retailer.
